Hiking is dangerous — you are responsible for you

Everything on this site is general information, not professional guiding, instruction, or advice. Hiking, scrambling, and travel in Iceland's backcountry are inherently hazardous: weather changes violently and fast, terrain erodes, rivers rise, snow lingers, paths vanish, and conditions described here may be entirely different — or gone — when you arrive. Route descriptions, maps, GPS tracks, times, and difficulty ratings reflect one party's experience on one day. They may contain errors and are no substitute for your own preparation, equipment, navigation, and judgment.

By using any information from this site, you accept full responsibility for your own safety and assume all risks of injury, death, or loss. Check current conditions and alerts (for Iceland: safetravel.is and vedur.is), tell someone your plan, and turn back when in doubt.
